Dental Cleaning
Professional dental cleanings are usually performed by a Registered Dental Hygienists and are part of healthy oral hygiene. People routinely clean their own teeth by brushing, but dental hygienists can remove hardened deposits not removed by routine cleaning. Regular cleanings can prevent cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
Your cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:
- Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that is firmly attached to the tooth surface.
- Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky film of living bacteria that forms on teeth. The bacteria produce toxins that cause inflammation and are the start of periodontal disease!
- Teeth polishing: Removes any stains that are not removed with regular brushing.
